Hi there,
Its been a while since I've been on the site and it looks like a few things have changed since my last visit. New house and new job have been keeping me pretty busy these days, but I have been doing some fishing.
I hit Candlewood Lake in CT last Saturday with fellow Outcast member Bill S thinking the weather was going to be perfect for some big Fall smallmouth action. We got on the water about 7am with the air and water temps both in the low 60's. After hitting two of my favorite smallie spots and two hours of throwing the "kitchen sink" at them we had no fish to show for our efforts. I did have 1 fish follow a jerkbait, which was about all the excitement we had.
Time to change tactics and put some fish in the boat. Leaving the deeper rocky waters for some shallower weedy areas, I stopped at a spot where another buddy and me caught a bunch of fish a few weeks earlier during a club tournament. I assured my partner that we should find some largemouths in this area. The fish did not disappoint us. Within a few minutes, I brought a nice 2.5 lber into the boat. Then the REAL fish started to show up. We did not have a lot of quantity but we did have some quality fish. Bill only managed 1 fish for the day but it was a solid 3lb 5oz fish. I managed 8 for the day which included 3.15, 3.12, 3.7 and 3.2 lb largemouths. I finally DID get one elusive smallmouth out of the same weedy area that weighed in at 2lbs 4 oz. Now...if I could only put a 15lb+ bag together during our next tournament.
