Here is a question for all of my new Red-Necked friends. When I moved to Louisiana I was introduced to the fried turkey. Being raised out west I was indoctrinated to believe that all things fried are evil, so the thought of dipping a whole turkey into a boiling vat of peanut oil was a little scary for me. Then one Thanksgiving, about 3 years ago I had a bunch of company over and several of them brought fried turkeys to the shin-dig. I was amazed, and astounded. The turkey was wonderful, and not greasy, as my previous cult-like family members would have me to believe. wink.gif
My question is this....what do you all inject the bird with prior to cooking? Down here it is usually some type of spicy Cajun mixture, and it is great, but I just want to know if I have any other options (for those 'I don't like spicy food' types).

Jack Daniels of course... laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

A fried bird is some good eating I tell ya. We don't shoot ours up with anything but we do put my wifes seasoning all over the out side of it before it gets dunked. A lot of people shoot theirs up but putting seasoning on the outside seems to impound the flavor into the bird from the sudden slam of that hot oil when you first dunk it in.

Nixie, go to a Bass Pro and check out all the different flavors of injecting sauces they have. Get a bunch of them to try. Our family cooks 4 for Christmas, all different flavors smile.gif

Bass Pro shops sells Turkey seasoning? Is that the only store (besides the Piggy Wiggly were you buy the turkey) that you southern peple have?

The local Academy has a ton of choices also. There is not a BPS within 200 miles of me, boo hoo, so guess I will have to stick with Academy.
I knew there were 'store bought' sauces to inject, but I was just wondering if anyone had any homemade recepies. Thanks guys.

And esquired.....with a BPS who needs anything else????????? wink.gif

The nearest BPS is over two hours from me - and that sucks becuase they are a Mako dealer as well.

I have to agree, Chester. It sure smells good enough for me to eat on a big plate of angel hair pasta but, it is a secret recipe So who aside from CB knows what's in the stuff? Pretty sure the ever faithful FDA has not approved it for human consumption. Hmmmm, the FDA also said Jack in the Box was a fine establishment....before the E-Coli outbreak a few years back......

Okay, CB. Come clean....can I treat this year's Thanksgiving and Christmas guests to a fried turkey injected with The Sauce? biggrin.gif
Crossbow
Um mm, well, hmmm, It depends how if you like them or not...LOL
riverrat
CB, how about some garlic taters for the club meeting? A little Hawg sauce sure would spice things up.... biggrin.gif
Crossbow
Rat, Now there is a thought...LOL Are you mashing some over there getting ready for the party tomorrow? Look to have a good turn out with all the prizes we have this year from our sponsors. I should have hit Matt up for some more of them weights to hand out. Oh well can't think of everything ya know.
riverrat
Yea, I'm mashing them taters right now. Got them in a big ole washpot stomping the fool out of them with my feet, tater mashers broke you know biggrin.gif . Should have hit Matt up for sure, need a few myself sad.gif .
nixie1
Hey, you guys. Have fun at the end of the year meeting/awards ceremony. I sure miss that down here. Step proud CB, 'cause you deserve it. Rat, mash those taters, add a little Hawg Sauce and get back out there next year. I'll be rooting for the both of you!
riverrat
Going to get back out there for sure!!! I am getting back that urge to go all year once again. Must be the crowd I am hanging around dry.gif . Bad thing is, I dont know how to do something a little bit, I have to go all the way. Want to finish first and knock CB off biggrin.gif . Got to start a partner search pretty soon and get a new boat to keep up with those speed boats, things got a lot faster since I last competed.
Crossbow
Hope you did not wash your feet for a couple days to give them taters the right flavor Rat..LOL Yep your hanging with the rednecks now so you will be just fine next year buddy.

Nixie, Thanks for the kind words. My team worked very hard this year to Git-R-Done. Been a long time coming no doubt. Rat will be a major contender next year so don't let him fool ya. Now to get this party out of the way tomorrow then I will be busy trying to tag that BIG BUCK over the next few weeks as the rut is turning on hot & heavy now.
