ESPY Winner and Pro Angler – Jay Yelas

Jay Yelas is the second fisherman to win an ESPY in the outdoor sports category since it debuted back in 2002. The only other fisherman to win one is Kevin Van Dam. Listen as Jay explains what he did to win the ESPY, what the experience was like, and what his life is like after winning the ESPY. We jump into a bunch of sidebar conversations about Jay’s ESPY experience and much more. Jay is now the Executive Director at C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation.

The “Catch A Special Thrill” (C.A.S.T.) for Kids Foundation is a public charity formed in 1991. Our mission is to join volunteers who love to fish with children with special needs for a day of fishing in the outdoors. The Foundation was granted 501(c)3 status in 1994 and currently hosts two programs; C.A.S.T. for Kids and Take A Warrior Fishing.

The C.A.S.T. for Kids Program is designed to create an environment where special needs children and their caretakers can leave their problems on shore and share a day of fun and fishing on the water that they may not otherwise get to experience. The charity furthers its mission by increasing awareness of disabled and disadvantaged children in communities and teaching appreciation for natural resources. This is all made possible through the cooperation of government agencies, national and local sponsors, and local interest groups, and creates a rare and positive experience for America’s youth.
